Oxford Open 7s Girls Champions

St John Fisher channel Greece 2004

Today our Y4/5/6 footballers overcame huge odds to become Oxford Open 7s Champions!

Our Girls had qualified for the event second in their group during after school matches. We were drawn in a tough group this morning, and snuck through to the semi-finals on goal difference after a 1-0 loss, a 0-0 draw and a 1-0 win (there's a pattern here)

In the Semi-Finals we were drawn against New Marston who had not lost a match in Oxfordshire all year.

On debut, our Y4 superstar keeper Kate performed miracles and our defence was unbreachable, taking the game to penalties.

Calm heads from our girls saw us victorious, and onto the final against Our Lady's

It is funny, because if we don't win, obviously we always want Our Lady's, our sister school, to win, so a final against them is always welcome, and becoming quite a common sight! It just shows that Catholic schools are the best.

The game followed our pattern of the tournament, and, inspired by Greece in 2004, we defended solidly and took the game to Extra Time at 0-0.

Penalties followed, and the ice queens tucked theirs away comfortably, with Chailorina scoring the sudden death winner.

5 Games, 1 Goal Scored, 1 Goal Conceded, 11 Gold Medals.

Absolute scenes.
