Spring Term 1 – 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

This term our topic is ‘The Big Freeze’.  Through this topic we will learn about winter, the weather in the winter, arctic animals, birds and animals in the winter and hibernation, as well as what is happening above and below the ground during winter.

Our topic books this term are:

  1. Here comes Jack Frost by Kazuno Kohara

  2. Over and under the snow by Kate Messner

  3. The Emperor’s Egg by Martin Jenkins

In phonics, we will start learning the sounds in Phase Three as well as the Phase Three tricky words. During the term, we will give to your child a copy of the sounds so that they can practice them at home with you, along with a copy of the tricky words. Below you will find some useful links to support you practice those sounds with your child at home.

  1. How to pronounce each sound:

Phase 3 sounds taught in Reception Spring 1

  1. Useful information about the sounds and tricky words taught each term:

We will keep on reading with your child in school in reading groups three times a week. After the three reading sessions the book will be send home for you to practice reading at home with your child. Please ensure that the book is returned to school every week by Tuesday.

Thank you for all that you do,

Miss Pavlaki.

Firstly, I would like to invite you to a ‘Meet the Teacher’ meeting at 2.45pm on Wednesday 21st September. Parents and carers are welcome to a short informal meeting in the classroom to find out more about our organisation and the term ahead.  We realise this may not be convenient for everyone and will give copies of any information given out for your child to take home.

Please also continue to scroll down and find out more information about our class.

Kind Regards

Miss Pavlaki
